How many bricks for a wall?
Work out the wall's volume, then divide by the volume of a single brick including its mortar joint. Adding the joint to each brick dimension is what makes the estimate realistic — ignore it and you'll badly over-count. A standard 190×90×90 mm modular brick with a 10 mm joint works out to about 500 bricks per cubic metre of wall. A wastage margin covers breakages and cuts.

India's modular standard is 190×90×90 mm; the older size is 230×110×70 mm. Many places quote a 9-inch wall, which is about 0.23 m thick.
What's a 9-inch wall in the thickness box?
About 0.75 ft (0.23 m). A 4.5-inch half-brick wall is roughly 0.375 ft (0.115 m).
