About PPF

What is PPF?

Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a long-term savings scheme backed by the Government of India. It offers guaranteed returns, tax-free interest, and complete safety of capital — making it one of the best risk-free investments available.

What are the tax benefits?

PPF enjoys EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) status — the investment qualifies for deduction under Section 80C (up to ₹1.5 lakh per year), the interest earned is tax-free, and the maturity amount is also completely tax-free.

When can I withdraw?

PPF has a 15-year lock-in period. Partial withdrawal is allowed from the 7th year onwards. After 15 years, you can either withdraw the full amount or extend in 5-year blocks with or without contributions.

What is the current PPF interest rate?

The current PPF interest rate is 7.1% per annum, compounded annually. The government reviews this rate quarterly. It has ranged between 7% and 12% historically.
