FD vs RD — Which is better?
Fixed Deposit (FD)
You invest a lump sum once and earn interest over the tenure. Best if you have a large amount ready to invest. Interest is compounded quarterly in most banks.
Recurring Deposit (RD)
You invest a fixed amount every month for a chosen period. Best for salaried individuals who want to save from monthly income. RD interest is compounded quarterly.
Is FD/RD interest taxable?
Yes. Interest from FD and RD is added to your income and taxed as per your income tax slab. Banks deduct TDS at 10% if annual interest exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens).
