About Net Worth

What is net worth?

Net worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities. It is the most comprehensive single measure of your financial health. A positive and growing net worth means you are building wealth. Negative net worth (more debt than assets) is common early in life but should improve over time.

What is a good net worth?

A useful benchmark: your net worth should roughly equal your age × your annual income / 10. So a 35-year-old earning $70,000/year should target a net worth of about $245,000. This is a rough guide — not a strict rule.
