About Calories Burned
How is this calculated?
Calories burned = MET × weight (kg) × time (hours). MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a standard measure of exercise intensity — 1 MET = calories burned at rest. Running has a MET of ~8–14, walking ~2.5–3.5.
Why do I burn more calories if I weigh more?
Your body requires more energy to move a heavier mass. A 90 kg person burns approximately 28% more calories doing the same exercise as a 70 kg person. This is why calories burned estimates always require your body weight.
Running vs walking — which burns more?
Running burns significantly more calories per minute. However, per kilometre covered, the difference is smaller. Walking 5 km burns roughly 70–80% of what running 5 km burns, but takes twice as long.
