Are these rates live?
Yes — rates are fetched from a free public API (ExchangeRate-API / Frankfurter) when you open the page. They are updated approximately every hour. For large transactions, always confirm with your bank or authorised forex dealer as their rates include a spread/margin.
RBI guidelines for sending money abroad (India)
Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), resident Indians can remit up to USD 2,50,000 per financial year. Tax Collected at Source (TCS) at 20% applies on remittances above ₹7 Lakh per year (reduced to 5% for education and medical). Always use RBI-authorised forex dealers or bank wire transfers for international remittances.
Why is the rate different from my bank?
The rates shown here are mid-market rates (the midpoint between buy and sell). Banks and exchange counters add a margin of 1–3% on top of this rate. Online platforms like Wise typically offer rates much closer to the mid-market rate.
